Energy is one of the elementary things indispensable to people’s lives across every sector, from homes and industries to transport. It comes in heat, electrical, and chemical forms and can be grouped as renewable or nonrenewable energy sources. Renewable energy comes from natural replenishment sources like wind or solar power. On the other hand, nonrenewable energy is generated from limited resources, mainly fossil fuels, oil, gas, and coal. Thus, despite the evident trend toward increasing the use of renewable energy sources, fossil fuels continue to dominate more than 80% of the overall gross energy product in the world ( United Nations, 2023).
Oil is still the most prominent of all nonrenewable energy sources and has high dangers throughout extraction and processing. The oil and gas industry is regarded as one of the most dangerous industries globally, with employees subjected to numerous risks, such as fire-related and explosion risks. Such risks are fatal and may cause serious environmental and economic losses (Occupational Safety and Health Administration, 2019). Risk assessments will be needed in this high-risk industry, and preventive measures against loss of lives while enhancing safety measures in field operations need to be implemented.
